The Country Cottage

This charming country cottage was designed in-house by Mea Geldenhuys, drawing inspiration from the surrounding Midlands countryside and the clients’ love of a relaxed ranch-style country aesthetic. Elements inspired by horses, wildlife and the natural landscape were thoughtfully woven throughout the interiors, creating a home that feels both grounded and connected to its setting.

The bathrooms were given a considered facelift, while the interiors were layered with texture, warmth and character through the introduction of new lighting, soft furnishings and carefully selected finishes.

Antique pieces were retained to preserve a sense of history and authenticity, complemented by newly introduced modern-country furniture pieces, many of which were painted to add softness, personality and a relaxed sense of charm. The thatched guest cottage embraces the unmistakable character of the Midlands, with its original charm carefully preserved. The existing roof trusses were retained, celebrating the craftsmanship and heritage of the original cottage while allowing the new interventions to sit naturally within its timeless country setting.
